Dear colleagues,

I am sharing a Call for Papers for a panel I am organizing within the section Innovation in Regime Studies: New Approaches to Understanding Contemporary Political Regimes at the ECPR General Conference (8-11 September 2026, Jagiellonian University, Kraków).

The panel focuses on democraticwashing, examining how political, institutional, and civil-society actors strategically mobilize the language of democracy to legitimise practices that, in reality, undermine democratic principles. Bringing together comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives, the panel explores these strategic uses of democratic discourse, the gap between declared ideals and actual practices, and the struggles over legitimacy that emerge from such dynamics.

The full call and practical information are attached. Please feel free to circulate it within your networks or to submit a proposal.

Best regards,
