Workshop: “Researching Citizenship & Democracy in Europe”

The third workshop of, “Researching Citizenship & Democracy in Europe,” took place in Zurich on May 31 and June 1, 2013.

Its focus was the role of integration and naturalization procedures for citizenship and democracy in Europe. Launched with a debate open to the public among specialists on the question of “Who can decide” in a democracy on May 30, it explored the relationship between (political) integration and democracy and addressed the role of integration for the legitimacy and functioning of the democratic process, and the tensions between integration and democracy.
