• DemocracyNet.eu workshop: “Justice and Democracy: Assessing Political Legitimacy”

    The workshop “Justice and Democracy: Assessing Political Legitimacy,” the first of two workshops organized within the “Democracy: Bridging Facts and Norms” events series, took place at the University of Zurich on February 18-19. 12 participants (PhDs and Postdocs) presented papers and obtained feedback from our three discussants, Philippe Van Parijs (UniversitĂ© Catholique de Louvain), Monica Ferrin (University of Zurich), and Marco Steenbergen (University of Zurich). Lively and inspiring discussions took place among the participants and discussants on the presentations and on the ways to bridge theoretical and empirical research.   • 4th DemocracyNet Workshop

    The Fourth DemocracyNet workshop took place on September 19-20, 2014 at the University of Zurich. It enabled young PhD students and postdoctoral researchers coming from various countries to present and discuss their current research on the broader topic of political participation and citizenship in Europe.   • DemocracyNet.eu Workshop: “Researching Citizenship & Democracy in Europe”

    The third workshop of DemocracyNet.eu, “Researching Citizenship & Democracy in Europe,” took place in Zurich on May 31 and June 1, 2013. Its focus was the role of integration and naturalization procedures for citizenship and democracy in Europe. Launched with a debate open to the public among specialists on the question of “Who can decide” in a democracy on May 30, it explored the relationship between (political) integration and democracy and addressed the role of integration for the legitimacy and functioning of the democratic process, and the tensions between integration and democracy.
