On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the historic speech held by Charles de Gaulle to the German young people, the City of Ludwigsburg and the Franco-German Institute (dfi) jointly organized a forum for young people on participation in Europe, called “It’s our Europe”. On June 14 and 18, 2012, DemocracyNet.eu collaborated in this broad project by conducting chat sessions in which participants of the forum “It’s our Europe!” could discuss their ideas regarding institutional participation mechanisms in Europe with researchers.
The participants of the forum (students and pupils from France, Germany and other European countries) started discussing online in April 2012. Their focus was on the topic of democracy and political participation in view of the current challenges in Europe, such as the debt crisis, climate change or ageing of society. They presented and debated their findings among each other and with scientists and politicians in September 2012 in Ludwigsburg, Germany.
